2j○OtheroxygenatesapprovedforuseinunleadedgasolineincludeTAME(upto16.7%)andETBE(upto17.2%).FuelcontainingtheseoxygenatescanalsobeusedinyourKawasaki.GENERALINFORMATION47Useclean,freshunleadedgasolinewithanAnti-knockindexequaltoorhigherthanthatshowninthetable.TheAntiknockIndexispostedonservicesta-tionpumpsintheU.S.A.andCanada.Theoctaneratingofagasolineisameasureofitsresistancetodetonationor“knocking.”TheAntiknockIndexisanaverageoftheResearchOctaneNumber(RON)andtheMotorOctaneNumber(MON)asshowninthetablebelow.OctaneRatingMethodAntiknockIndex(RON+MON)Gasolinefrequentlycontainsoxygenates(alco-holsandethers)especiallyinareasoftheU.S.A.andCanadawhicharerequiredtosellsuchrefor-mulatedfuelsaspartofastrategytoreduceexhaustemissions.ThetypesandvolumeofMinimumRatingGasoline/AlcoholBlends—Gasolinecontainingupto10%ethanol(alcoholproducedformagricul-turalproductssuchascorn),alsoknownas“gaso-hol”isapprovedforuse.87Gasoline/EtherBlends—Themostcommonetherismethyltertiarybutylether(MTBE).Youmayusegasolinecontainingupto15%MTBE.fueloxygenatesap-provedforuseinunleadedgasolinebytheU.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgencyincludeabroadrangeofalcoholsandethers,butonlytwocompo-nentshaveseenanysignificantlevelofcommercialuse.FuelsContainingOxygenatesAvoidusingblendsofunleadedgasolineandmethanol(woodalcohol)wheneverpossible,andneveruse“gasohol”containingmorethan5%methanol.Fuelsystemdamageandperformanceproblemsmayresult.FuelRequirements:FuelTypeIfengine“knocking”or“pinging”occurs,useadifferentbrandofgasolineofahigheroctanerating.Ifthisconditionisallowedtocontinueitcanleadtosevereenginedam-age.Gasolinequalityisimportant.Fuelsoflowqualityornotmeetingstandardindustryspecificationsmayresultinunsatisfac-toryperformance.Operatingproblemsthatresultfromtheuseofpoorqualityornonrec-ommendedfuelmaynotbecoveredunderwarranty.NOTENOTICENOTICE
