•Checktherearbrakeeffectiveness.○Whenridinginwetandmuddyconditions,mudstickstothechainandsprockets,resultinginanoverlytightchain,whichcancauseittobreak.Topreventthis,adjustthechainslack(measuredbetweenthechainandtheswingarm)to62–68mm(2.4–2.7in.).MAINTENANCEANDADJUSTMENT109Misalignmentofthewheelwillresultinab-normalwear,andmayresultinanunsaferidingcondition.Aligntherearwheelusingthemarksontheswingarmormeasuringthedistancebetweenthecenteroftheaxleandswingarmpivot.•Inspecttherearaxlenut(seeRearAxleNutsec-tion).•Tightenbothchainadjusterlocknutstothespeci-fiedtorque.TighteningTorqueChainAdjusterLocknuts:15N·m(1.5kgf·m,11ft·lb)•Tightentheaxlenuttothespecifiedtorque.TighteningTorqueRearAxleNut:110N·m(11.2kgf·m,81.1ft·lb)•Rotatethewheel,measurethechainslackagainatthetightestposition,andreadjustitifnecessary.Alooseaxlenutcanleadtoanaccidentre-sultinginseriousinjuryordeath.Tightentheaxlenuttothepropertorque.Whenthechainhasreacheditswearlimit(i.e.,whenithasstretchedby1.7%ofitsoriginallength),itisnolongersafeforuseandshouldbereplaced.Sinceitisimpracticaltomeasuretheentirelengthofthechain,determinethedegreeofwearbymeasur-inga20-linksectionofthechain.•Tightenthechaineitherbyusingthechainad-justersorbyhanginga10kg(22lb)weightonthechain.•Measurethe20-linklengthonastraightpartofthechainfromthecenterofthe1stpintothecenterofthe21stpin.Ifthelengthexceedstheservicelimit,thechainshouldbereplaced.Sinceover-wornsprocketswillcauseanewchaintowearfaster,inspectboththeengineandrearsprocketswheneverthechainisreplaced,andreplacethemifnecessary.ChainWearInspectionWARNINGWARNINGNOTEj
